This guide helps you choose how much location information to share; our Life360 location guide addresses device compatibility for coordinate changes.
Quick Answer
To hide location on Life360, first decide whether you want to stop sharing entirely or hide only the precise point. The built-in sharing switch and Bubbles address different needs. Neither should be described as an invisible mode. Methods that attempt to report an alternative position add technical uncertainty and require a separate compatibility check.
Define the privacy boundary first
Ask three questions before changing settings: who currently has access, how much detail do they need, and for how long? A family Circle, a travel group, and a temporary contact can have different expectations. Review each sharing relationship separately. You may only need to end one arrangement rather than disrupt every app on the phone.
Also distinguish “not visible right now” from “not collected” and “deleted.” Those are separate outcomes. A map pin disappearing does not prove that earlier records have been removed, and a local permission restriction does not tell you what has already reached an account. Write down which outcome matters so that you can check the relevant control instead of relying on a reassuring screenshot.
Option 1: stop sharing with a Circle
The Life360 sharing instructions identify a visible paused state when sharing is disabled. Use this option when a clear stop is more important than preserving the appearance of ordinary updates.
Check your Circle selection and then review the result. A pause is not a selected replacement address, and it does not promise an unchanged remote screen. Our turn-off guide explains why app settings, permissions, and connection loss should not be treated as interchangeable.
Option 2: share an approximate area
Life360's Bubble documentation explains that a Bubble masks the exact point while the Circle sees an approximate area. A Circle member can burst it, revealing location and notifying the Circle. This makes it unsuitable for a promise of complete concealment.
Approximate sharing can still be useful when the objective is less detail rather than a fabricated destination. Check whether the feature is available in your Circle and agree on what should happen when the period ends. Do not assume that a broad area means people cannot make educated guesses about where you are.
Option 3: review device-level access
Restricting the app's location permission changes access to your phone's location. It does not selectively replace the real position with another one. Review the implications for other services before turning location off across the whole phone. A broad system switch can create a larger interruption than the privacy boundary you intended.
If you are evaluating a desktop USB tool or system-level changer, ask what evidence establishes support for your exact device and target app. Include how the setup is reversed, what happens after reconnection, and whether it affects other maps. We do not infer successful remote sharing from a local preview, and this guide does not claim that a specific device was tested.
What does not work as a privacy guarantee
A VPN can change the network address a service sees, but that is different from the location supplied by the phone. Free location tools may have limited support or require conditions that do not fit your device. A stationary point with an old timestamp is not a live location. Rapid moves across cities create an implausible sequence rather than a guarantee of privacy.
For short interruptions, read the comparison of Life360 pause methods. For a wider device overview, see our iPhone GPS methods hub. Choose one change at a time so that you can identify its actual effect.
FAQ
Is hiding the exact point the same as going offline?
No. Approximate sharing can keep an area visible; going offline interrupts communication. These have different consequences.
Does a Bubble mean I am invisible?
No. Treat it as a visible privacy feature with limits, not an invisible location mode.
Should I remove the app to erase history?
Do not equate uninstalling with account-data deletion. Review the service's data controls separately.
How do I get an assessment without committing?
Send your iPhone model, iOS version, and whether you want stopped updates, approximate sharing, or changed coordinates. Compatibility is checked free before you decide; passwords and verification codes are unnecessary.
